WARNING!! Universities Charging Above N2,000 For Post-utme Must Refund Excess To Students (Details)

WARNING!! Universities Charging Above N2,000 For Post-utme Must Refund Excess To Students (Details)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) yesterday said universities that charged more than N2,000 from applicants for its post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) examination would be made to refund the excess payment.

JAMB’s Head of Public Relations, Fabian Benjamin, made these known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He decried message on the social media that the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, had directed the refund of post UTME fee, describing the information as false and could create confusion in the public domain.

Benjamin urged the public to disregard the information, saying that institutions that had charged more than N2,000 would be asked to make refund of the excess.

He described as unfortunate a situation where some institutions could not adhere to the minister’ directive about the payment of post-UTME

The examination board said it would partner the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conduct public examination through Computer Based Test, CBT, for Nigerians abroad.

Benjamin said the collaboration was to enhance the conduct of UTME for foreign candidates in 2018.

He said 2017 UTME was conducted for foreign candidates on September 30 in Gambia, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin Republic, Ethiopia, South Africa and Cameroun.

According to him, although the conduct of the examination was not justifiable, in terms of monetary value, there is need for JAMB to collaborate, to promote growth in the education sector.

We are already promoting CBT in line with international best practices; we have taken it to some countries in Africa, we need to do more to encourage the practice.

“We have even gone ahead to see how we can put some countries on the global map by conducting our public examination there through CBT.

“What we want to do is to partner with the ministry to be able to key into the global technology revolution as part of our foreign policy.

“We must be able to maximise profit, especially from West African countries that we are offering assistance, through scholarship, to school in Nigeria.
“We cannot achieve much by looking at things from naira and kobo, but through diplomatic relations there will be adequate room to gain through conduct of examination abroad,” he said.

The head of public relations explained that foreign candidates sat for examination in one session based on local time of their various countries, adding that the questions were deployed from the board’s headquarters.

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have kidnapped 10 members of a geological research team from the University of Maiduguri in northeast Nigeria, the state oil company, which contracted the work, said on Wednesday.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has been surveying for more than a year for what it says could be vast oil reserves in the Lake Chad Basin, a region wracked by Boko Haram’s eight-year insurgency, which has killed at least 20,000 people and forced millions to flee their homes.

‘Nigerians Should Expect New Data Prices Soon’- NCC Reveals

‘Nigerians Should Expect New Data Prices Soon’- NCC Reveals

The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has said Nigerians should expect a new data price as soon as an on-going cost-based research is concluded.

This was disclosed in Abuja by the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Umar Garba Dambatta during a chat with DAILY POST.

According to him, the commission had noticed that the level of data usage was growing across the country and there was need for an affordable and acceptable price floor for data.
He said this was necessary in order to forestall a price war in the data sub-segment of the telecommunications industry.

Dambatta disclosed that the commission was looking at other temporary measures in other to ensure that data services improved.

He said: “We have noticed that the level of data usage is growing. This attests to the earlier assertion by the NCC that data is going to be the next frontier.

“You recall that NCC attempted to do the interim price floor for data in order to ensure that we do not have a price war in the data sub-segment of the industry.

“This of course met with resistance from the consumers; and because the NCC is a listening agency, we suspended the interim price floor.

“As I am talking to you, there is a cost-based study going on in order to arrive at an accepted, affordable data price floor which will come into force as soon as the consultants’ work is concluded.

“That is, as soon as the outcome of this consultancy that is on-going over data price is discussed,.as usual, and is further consulted upon with other stakeholders who we expect will provide useful information towards arriving at an acceptable price floor for data.

“We are also looking at other temporary measures in other to ensure that data services improve.
“We are thinking about providing palliatives to smaller operators in the industry. I‎ mean those with about 7.5 percent share of the market.

We are in discussion with them in order to see how we can help them to provide data services in different part of the country even as we are talking with bigger operators to ensure that we find a way to improve the quality of data services.”

Buhari’s Health: Apostle Johnson Suleiman Sends Strong Warning

Buhari’s Health: Apostle Johnson Suleiman Sends Strong Warning

The General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleiman warned Nigerians to against wishing President Muhammadu Buhari dead as no one has the power to kill or make live.

While the Man of God was addressing his church members, he noted that it is irresponsible of any Nigerian to wish the President dead despite his sickness. He however admonished Nigerians to pray for the well-being of the ailing president. “Only an irresponsible country will be wishing their leader dead.”

“It’s an irresponsible thing for people to be wishing President’s death. Nobody who has a good heart will be wishing a leader dead. “You don’t wish your leader dead. Nigerians should be careful. Only God has the power of life and death. “Stop wishing the President dead. If your husband is sick do you wish him death? Do you that man is somebody’s husband? If your father is sick do you wish him death?

That man is somebody’s father. “And you are wishing him dead. I know this thing I’m saying some Christians won’t like it. Stop wishing him dead. Pray for his health. Don’t wish any leader dead. “Only an irresponsible country will be wishing their leader dead.”, he established. Suleiman also urged everyone to live in peace instead of allowing crisis to prevail in the various regions of the country. “If you are a Nigerian, whether you like it or not, this country is your country. Its our country. We are going to pray for Nigeria. Let there be peace in Nigeria from the North to the East, West and South. “If there is crisis in Nigeria, it will consume all of us. We don’t need crisis, we need peace. We cannot talk of development without peace”, he added.

WASSCE 2017 May/June Results: WAEC Records Best Performance In 10 Years

WASSCE 2017 May/June Results: WAEC Records Best Performance In 10 Years

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) yesterday announced a 59.22 percent pass rate in the 2017 May/June West African Senior School Examinations (WASSCE).

The 59.22 percent represents the number of candidates that obtained credit pass in five subjects including English language and Mathematics.

This figure happens to be the best the council has achieved in the last 10 years.

This is a great improvement when compared with the 2008 results which had just 13.76 of the candidates that sat for the exam obtaining credit passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

It is also on record that the percentage of candidates in this category in WASSCE for 2015 and 2016 were 38.68 percent and 52.97 percent, respectively.

In the light of this, it can be said that these results may be an indication that we are gradually drifting away from the era of mass failure that has characterized the performance of candidates in past times.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will not condone multiple registration for Direct Entry and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME ).

A statement signed by JAMB’s Head of Public Relations, Mr Fabian Benjamin said in Abuja on Sunday. Benjamin described the act of multiple registration as a serious offence in the process of obtaining the Board’s application forms presently on sale.

He said that the warning had become imperative for people to know and understand that violation of such rule would attract sanctions. According to him, the Board has established new method of admission in line with its mandate to ensure fairness irrespective of tribe, religion and it is determined to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

The JAMB public relations officer said that the Board had held consultations with universities across the country to enable candidates meet the requirement and secure admission without the assistance of anybody. According to him, no cut-off mark has been arrived at as this can only be done at a policy meeting, which is at the moment yet to be conveyed. “Do not allow yourselves to be defrauded by internet fraudsters, the policy meeting would commence the 2017 admission with all mode, process and acceptable conditions for admission

. “The Prof. Oloyede led management is working to ensure transparent, acceptable and fair admission process. “We have designed software known as Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), where human interference will be completely removed, to promote credibility.

“The admission criteria would be keyed into the software and it will select candidates blindly according to the institutions requirement without any primordial consideration.’’
