Borno, Sudan sponsor 100 females to study Medicine

The Borno State government
and Ahfad University of Sudan have signed an agreement to sponsor 100
female students from the state to study medicine to address manpower
shortages in its health sector.
The Secretary to the State
Government, Alhaji Usman Jidda Shuwa who signed the Memorandum of
Understanding on behalf of the state government said the intervention
was to address the scarcity of female doctors who specialise in the
areas of female health.
Addressing newsmen on the
agreement, Shuwa reiterated that Governor Kashim Shettima was committed
to providing quality education and creation of jobs for the people of
the state.
He stated that already 50 female indigenes are studying medicine at Alrazi University in Sudan.
He said that 50 students will be sponsored each by the Ahfad University and the state government as contained in the agreement.
The university’s director of
admissions, Dr. Abubakar Abdoulrazim applauded Shettima’s determination
to revive the health sector and assured that the partnership entered
into by the two parties was in the right direction.
